Welcome to Conwy Camera Club
Conwy Camera Club is the oldest photographic society in North Wales and currently the largest. Weekly meetings normally take place on Tuesday evenings from September to May at “Y Morfa Venue” located at Conwy Borough FC. With spacious facilities, free parking, comfortable seating and Wi-Fi, Y Morfa is an ideal base for our 100+ members. Appendix 3 features a location map.
Guidance Notes for Judges
Members are split into 3 sections, General (Beginners), Intermediate and Advanced. We request that you do not rank images using the traditional grading of First, Second, Highly Commended etc., but rather assign each image a mark on individual merit on a scale between 0-20. It is entirely acceptable to award multiple entries the same top mark, which may not necessarily be 20, as our members receive awards at year end for highest cumulative scores. On the night, we name all authors achieving 16 or more points. Normally, due to the distribution of entries we traditionally exhibit General and Intermediate entries in the first session, and advanced in the second.
Ample racking will be in situ on the night to exhibit prints. An area will be illuminated with 5000 kelvin spotlights in an otherwise darkened room during the judging process. Importantly, please retain prints in listing order as a digital version will be simultaneously projected for the benefit of members who are unable to sit close to the print. Please emphasize to the audience that your marks are based solely on the printed image should you find it useful to make comparisons between print and projected image.
Judging Digital Projected Images
Images will already be pre-loaded onto the Clubs laptop in alphabetical order by title segregated into General, Intermediate and Advanced folders. If you prefer to review images in a different sequence, please bring along a PC compatible memory stick (or disk) with the files rearranged accordingly. A wireless remote presenter with laser pointer is provided for you to advance images forwards (or backwards).
General Notes for Judges and Guest Speakers
On the Night
Access to Y Morfa Venue is usually available from 6:30 pm for setting up etc. Evenings start promptly at 7:30 pm and are normally split with a short break at approximately 8:20 aiming to finish no later than about 9:30 pm. There will be a short delay at the beginning of the evening for general announcements. There will also be a very short delay at the start of the second session for our digital raffle. Appendix 2 lists contact numbers in the event you have a query.
An Illuminated lectern and wireless remote presenter with laser pointer is provided for Judges and Guest Speakers
Projector & Laptop
The Club’s full HD (1920 x 1080) LCD Projector is fully calibrated in conjunction with our hi-spec PC Laptop and screen. If you wish to use your own laptop in conjunction with our projector, accurate colour reproduction cannot be guaranteed. Please be aware (particularly if you have an Apple device) of the connectivity options listed in Appendix 1 of this guide.
Audio/ PA System
All visiting speakers are encouraged to use our unobtrusive clip on lapel microphone linked wirelessly to the Club’s PA System. A hand-held wired microphone is also available if needed. If your presentation has an audio soundtrack this can be relayed via PA system provided your device has a standard 3.5 mm audio jack socket.
Software availability on Club Laptop (windows 10) licencing constraints limit the availability of software on our laptop:
- Jpg’s – For the projection of jpg’s we use “IrfanView 64” which unlike Windows own apps is easily configured to display the image at its actual pixel density. The ideal resolution for jpg files is the current competition standard of 1400 x 1050, or widescreen 1920 x 1080.
- PC executable files – As produced by ProShow, PicturesToExe etc., ideally optimised at the same resolution for jpg’s above.
- Movie Files – Most formats compatible with Windows 10 utilities or VLC Media Player.
- PowerPoint – The Club’s laptop has the most recent version of PowerPoint as part of the full Microsoft Office Suite.
